Tips for Choosing Accommodation in the Maldives
If you are planning to go to the Maldives for your holiday, the hotel selection will be one of the important considerations. You’re already in the right place for great guest houses but here are a few tips to make sure you end up in the most suitable accommodation for you:
Location, location, location.
You have probably heard this before, particularly when buying a home. Location is still the very first thing you have remember when selecting a hotel. Choose a place that is conveniently located to your itineraries. Check it out and you’ll see that many local islands are just a local ferry journey away from Male – where your flight will land in the Maldives. On local islands you can avoid being surrounded by heaps of tourists and you are still surrounded by spectacular scenery, all while saving a bundle.
Set your budget.
A Maldives holiday can become very expensive if you have not carefully considered your budget. Once you set your price, you can substantially narrow down the list of your prospective accommodation options. Consider activities, accommodation and meals.
Decide: luxurious OR interesting experience.
Once you look at all these costs you can decide whether a luxury hotel is important to you – or if it’s the surroundings and experience that will make for a memorable vacation. Local islands offer island living among locals with access to the activities, beaches and scenery that expensive resorts offer. Guest house prices are minimal and still offer meals and comfy facilities.
Look for an island that offers activities that you are planning to do while in the Maldives. Are you going for some diving or snorkelling? Do you want do some water sports like jet skiing and parasailing? Check to see if the location you’re considering offers what you want. Note: booking activities in advance as part of a package might get you some discounts.
Determine which package is most suitable and fits your needs. Book ‘room only’ if you wish to spend most of your time outside the hotel or guest house. Room only is the cheapest rate that resorts offer but room and board might end up getting you better value. ‘Room and breakfast’ is often the more preferred choice since no one really wants to worry about where to eat at the start of the day. Room and breakfast is best to those who want to spend the rest of the day in other places. ‘Full board’ includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the local islands check what local restaurants are available as your guest house might actually be one of the best places to eat! Note: full board does not include drinks. In fact, on local islands alcohol is not available. ‘All-inclusive’ packages offered by some resorts include all meals, alcohol and all/some activities. This suits people who have a big budget and do not want to worry about anything except making their way from the room to beach, then restaurant and back to the room each day.
Local islands and guest houses generally offer basic amenities that allow you to focus your attention on the beauty of the nature surrounding you. Since you’re not staying among tons of other tourists you’ll have a one of a kind vacation experience. Many Maldives resort have spa centers and health related services that will definitely make you feel pampered. These, of course, come with a price but if you are willing to spend on such luxury there are no end to the resort options – take your pick.
The best months to visit Maldives are from December to April. These months offer the most hours of sunshine with the least chances of rain. Remember, Maldives is in the Indian Ocean so if you want to escape the chilly or rainy winters, this is the place to go.
If you are traveling with children, you might think about choosing a resort with a kid’s club. This is not a budget option but you keep your kids entertained while you relax or enjoy the activities you plan for your vacation. For a more unique experience though your kids may benefit from seeing how the people of the Maldives live on a local island and spending more time with their parents enjoying the exciting activities the Maldives has to offer.
If you are planning to spend your honeymoon in Maldives, there are several resorts that have packages for a romantic getaway. Resorts offer luxury and smaller islands offer a unique experience. Make your honeymoon memorable based on your tastes.
As opposed to a romantic getaway, you can definitely feel the party mood on larger islands, especially at night when there may be organized entertainment. Alcohol is prohibited on local islands, so if you stay there you could make a day trip to a resort for an island cocktail. The fresh juice is delicious though on the local islands!
