Up to date, the aquatic life and the reefs are still thriving. Vaavu Thinadhoo is 78 KM south of the Ibrahim Nasir International airport (INIA). The island is quite small considering that it has a population of about 500 people, out of which 50 are the current inhabitants.

The islanders are slowly coming to terms with tourism as their source of income and having outsiders as their visitors. The vegetation, which consists of coconut palms, beach shrubbery and old trees, makes Thinadhoo even more beautiful.
A number of inhabitants have opened up guest houses on the island and the rest of the people have chosen to work at resorts since work opportunities in the island are limited. Most of the people on the island have learnt the basics of a number of foreign languages. While there are guests on the island, most of the residents choose to stay away so as to accord the guests some privacy. The inhabitants are the force behind the vision of tourism and its activities and they are increasingly warming up to the guests and also to tourism as its source of income.
